Roy Wood Jr. just had a spectacular one-night experience that will go down in history as anyone who is the front-runner for the annual Whitehouse Correspondent's Dinner would do -- because no one is invited to headline unless he or she is considered the pennultimate artist or commedian of the age. It is also unusual that last year Trevor Noah was the headliner from the Daily Show, and he "hit the ball out of the park"! Therefore, Roy Wood, Jr. has twice as much hanging over his shoulder because he was a writer and performer also for the Daily Show during Trevor Noah's tenure. Now Wood is in the running for the replacement seat for the Daily Show. Under these circumstances he is expected to have to soar in his comedic remarks on this occasion. My brother and I happened to watch this program recently and found Roy Wood, Jr. to be more than quite satisfactory in his performance. In fact he was terse and actually very good. It will be easy to hear the audience and pundits compare the two performers. However, I believe they both were great. One difference is that while Trevor is informal, cheerful, and witty, we look for Roy to utilize his "droll commentary" disposition skills to keep the audience entertained in a very thoughtful manner. They are not really to be compared, and we hereby look forward to Roy Wood, Jr. taking on the Daily Show hosting feat in the very near future.
